Hey friends! Long time no talk! I am excited to announce that Girl In The Chicken Cype is almost ready! I am putting final touches on the story and will begin posting chapters within the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

So a year to a year and a half ago, I decided that it would be cool to use the Polaroids I had that didn’t turn out great and paint markers to spell out a Bible verse, specifically a Bible verse on GRACE. I even found a big shadowbox to display them in.

Grace seemed like a beautiful topic to show with imperfect Polaroids. ♥️

As you can see, I finally picked a passage. It turns out it was the exact amount of words to match with the number of sad Polaroids I had collected. Now I just have to put them in the shadowbox, but I thought I’d share a little reel first.

Today’s update: I wrote 654 words, and I was working on chapter 5! Here is where I’m tracking my writing this year. So far, it’s actually pretty consistent.

The green design behind the castle is actually bubble wrap. It was pretty fun to dab an ink pad on it and then use it for this spread.

P.S. This song is so catchy. Was listening on repeat (despite having a wonderful husband) and noticed the part where she says “for somebody I thought was my savior / You sure make me do a whole lotta labor,” and…made me think how dangerous it is to go into a relationship where you have the other person on a pedestal. The type of person who would LET you idolize them, is definitely the kind of person who will take advantage of you. #labour

This spread was so fun to make! I used some clear shiny material from a gift bag, a BJ’s drink coaster, a tag from a Lifechurch shirt, a couple flowery gift bags, part of a Dubai chocolate box, a Polaroid film box, a Buffalo Wild Wings wet wipe packet, etc etc etc + lots of awesome stickers, including one from @dutchbroscoffee . The “one day your life will flash before your eyes” decal is from SunnyGoOffical’s Etsy shop—it’s some graffiti from the Life is Strange game.

Chapter 4 is told from the point of view of a very wealthy somewhat elderly woman. She’s proud but sweet and intelligent. This chapter is to help show her heart.

I am loving using my own photographs of nature to decorate my journal this month.

Most of the stickers I’m using are from the Nature Anatomy Sticker Book by @juliarothman and the One More Page: A Sticker Book for Book Lovers. I also used some reinforcement holes that I added different colors and patterns to.

Found the inspiration I needed for my new bujo spreads! I got a new sticker book from Barnes & Noble and then realized I’d already gotten this cookbook home library kit (clearance) that comes with cool cards and pockets. It all goes together! Then I printed off photos I’ve taken, and now I’m pretty excited to get started! So I guess the theme is books and nature? Which is pretty close to my last theme “words and nature,” BUT it’s going to look different! :P

I love the process of developing characters and story. As I look to figure out what happens in Project Shapeshifter, I have some things I know need to happen, but then I delve further into these characters to develop them and decide what they would do next based on who they are. Then I start to see the Chekhov’s guns I need to set up. It’s a glorious feeling!

I’m currently working on chapter 2, which is going nicely so far. I’m introducing my main POV characters, and I’m hoping I’m doing well in developing the characters individually

Writing update: got out of my house today. Got an idea to change the order of scenes at the beginning of this “new” story so was going to change the scene cards I had made.

But then I started thinking of more things for the first scene so I decided to just write the scene! I wrote 614 words, and the scene is not over yet. But I’m confident about where the scene needs to end.

Feeling much better about the story today, and I’m even excited about it again!

More writing/organizing/brainstorming today. Pretty proud of myself. Did a writing session this morning before a 1.5 mile walk with my man. Then I got back to it late this afternoon. TWO writing sessions in one day?? It’s madness, I tell you.

Strangely enough, near the end of my second session, I wasn’t feeling so great about things. I’ve been writing out all these scenes on index cards, but need to structure the story. Pondering this, made me think of things I could add or change, but I also felt kind of morose. Wondered if the ideas would be enough. Maybe I was just brainstormed-out for the day.

Moods happen sometimes.

I struggled with what “theme” to go with for my new monthlies and finally settled on something that I can only currently describe as “nature & words”?? I’m loving the collage style.

For the cover spread shown above, I used 3 coloring pages, a book page, some kraft paper, some of this tissue-like-paper with black print on it, and approximately 1 million stickers. It actually ended up being pretty fun. ♥️

A grief-stricken farmer and his young daughter stumble upon a disheveled woman in their chicken cype.

He allows Prim to stay on the farm to help out, but soon discovers she brought a dangerous secret too heavy to carry alone.

The longer Prim stays on the farm, the more she, Daks, and young Ora grow to love each other.

Can Prim and Daks put aside her past to make a new, happy family? Or will Prim’s secret tear the three of them apart?

Yesterday, I finally forced myself to sit down for the first time in too long to work on planning the next story!

A major part of this new story (well, I’ve had the idea for a while, but newER) are the ideas of manipulation and control.

All the short(er) stories I’m going to be posting on Royal Road lead to the main story that I plan to finish and publish in the future. They all take place in the same world, so you may notice overlapping cultural elements, characters, and mayhaps even locations.
